The Structural Engineers Association of Michigan (SEAMi) has selected Hollie Wall, PE, Engineer with Ruby+Associates, as the recipient of the 2018 Young Structural Engineer of the Year award. The award was presented on May 10th during SEAMi’s Spring Conference at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing. The award is presented each year to a structural engineer who has been practicing in the field for 12 years or less, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in engineering and contributions to improve the quality of life for people around them.
As a student at Lawrence Technological University (LTU), Hollie took on the role of Senior Design Capstone Team Leader and Structural Engineer. After graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2014 with her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, she earned her Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree in 2016. Wall paid her way through school by working, and from various scholarships.
In preparation for the Professional Engineer (PE) exam in 2017, Hollie hosted study sessions at Ruby’s office and shared resources that helped others, including co-workers and former LTU classmates, prepare for the test. She gained her PE licensure in December 2017.
Since joining Ruby in 2016, Hollie has enjoyed working on a variety of project types, from automotive truss evaluation to industrial lift engineering projects, and many more in between.
Hollie has always focused on giving back to the community. She’s an active member of Ruby’s community service committee as a leader and coordinator for various events. Her volunteer efforts have included roles as: Engineering Society of Detroit Future Cities Judge; Mentor and Panel Discussion Member, Go Red Goes STEM Event; American Heart Association Heart and Stroke Walk Leader, Ruby+Associates Team; Coordinator and Fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night Event, Ruby+Associates Team; Organizer for Thanksgiving Charity, Boxes of Love for Cru Inner City Detroit; Mentor for Ruby+Associates high school and college student visitors, and Volunteer for Life Remodeled.
