Detroit, Michigan
Finding the optimal location for over 400,000 pounds of equipment and counterweight in downtown Detroit.
The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority is completing a $270 million reinvention at this center. Ruby+Associates provided stability analyses and erection procedures for the renovation of Oakland Hall Annex, and connection design of the reframed floor system. A key challenge involved finding the optimal location for a 159,000 pound crane and 249,000 pounds of counterweight, without overloading the structure beneath. Ruby then provided lift assistance for a 180 foot box truss weighing 110 tons for the new Ballroom, and stability analysis and erection procedure in the new Atrium for installation of 60 foot transfer trusses and removal of building columns.
