100,000 square foot hangar stands eight stories tall to facilitate fleet of DC-10 aircraft.
Northwest Airlines needed a new facility to perform overnight maintenance of its fleet of DC-10 aircraft. Ruby+Associates performed the structural design as part of the design-build team charged with creating the hangar and adjacent support facility on a constrained site at the north end of the airport terminal. Ruby developed a structural system of four clearspan trussed arch frames supported on concrete spread footings. This two-bay, 100,000 square foot hangar stands eight stories tall and can hold an entire football field.
