Syracuse University Carrier Dome Roof

Engineering support for lifting and installing a massive new cable trussed roof.

For our long-time client Midwest Steel, Ruby’s team provided engineering support for lifting and installing primary structural members (weighing up to 170,000 lbs) to support new cable roof trusses onto this existing stadium - the largest structure of its kind on a U.S. college campus.

Midwest's successful installation of the complex system, upheld by a crown truss with an undulating box compression ring and spiral pipes, was supported by Ruby’s lift analysis and Tekla 3D modeling. Our team designed a variety of specialty lifting devices as well as temporary support terminations, lugs and pull fixtures for rigging and setting the 19 different spiral pipes and 14 different compression ring sections.

A project of this magnitude and complexity was successful in part because Midwest's team collaborated with Ruby to resolve rigging design and field challenges together as they arose during construction.
