United Wholesale Mortgage Pedestrian Bridge and Offices

Engineering the erection of the nation's longest enclosed pedestrian walkway.

This new pedestrian bridge and office renovation project was born out of UWM’s rapid expansion and need to connect its employees to two facilities across the street from one another. The solution was a 1,000-foot bridge, the nation’s longest enclosed pedestrian walkway, connecting 1.5 million square feet of office space with a safe and easy to traverse pathway. Ruby’s erection engineering team worked closely with Ideal Contracting and their suppliers to erect 450 tons of structural and miscellaneous steel. Ruby also provided third party review of the bridge design to The Alan Group.

A separate part of the project involved expanding the company’s workspaces, which converted a former warehouse and utilized shipping containers for offices, corridors, and other shared and private areas. Ruby provided connection design, cargo container support design, structural engineering for walkways and stairs, and slab edge detail design to von Staden Architects, working closely with cargo architecture firm Three Squared, Inc.
