Adding practice space and an entertainment venue to EverBank Field.
Longtime client Midwest Steel reached out to Ruby to provide an erection plan and shoring design for this unique project. Called Daily’s Place, and attached to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ EverBank Field, the project includes a 94,000 square foot covered Flex Field football practice facility connected to a 5,500-seat open air amphitheater. Steel and fabric comprise more than 80% of the design materials for the project, including over 2300 tons of steel.
Ruby’s designers were challenged with long trusses that spanned across the Flex Field and Amphitheater roof, creating potential difficulty maintaining steel elevation. The team developed solutions for steel elevation control that took advantage of the existing central splice, and erected trusses in two halves with shoring near the center of the span. This solution prevented deflection, as well as the need for costly special lifting apparatuses and additional bracing during roof truss erection.
During the design phase, the schedule for construction of the amphitheater was somewhat in flux, so Ruby’s erection procedures accounted for two scenarios: the amphitheater as a separate, sequenced project, as well as coinciding with construction of the Flex Field.
